Composer's Note

I've always been fascinated with how we often describe sounds as being "dark" or "bright" despite those words having nothing to do with sound. Eventually, I came to learn that we are describing the sensation of the overtones in a sound: more high overtones "sounds bright." As a singer, I am always chasing a "chiaroscuro" in my voice. In this piece, I wanted to explore the difference in those sounds by moving back and forth between them, sometimes abruptly, sometimes gradually to see if we can find the exact limit where a sound begins to feel bright or if the sensation is entirely contextual.
